Barnes & Noble Will Accept Gift Cards For the Nook eBook Reader

It seems as if Barnes & Noble are trying to get some of those Christmas gift dollars with their eBook gift card being available for use on eBook purchases either through the Barnes & Noble website or their Nook eBook reader and the Nook-compatible apps out there.

The "announcement" from Barnes & Noble that the eBook purchase capability will be available in "mid-December".

Barnes & Noble Announces the Nook eBook Reader

Ok. So some of you might have heard (or probably read) that the world's largest bookseller Barnes & Noble was finally throwing their hat into the eBook reader ring.  So why am I confused?  Well, their announcement first eBook announcement was for an eBook Reader collaboration with Plastic Logic and not the "Nook", which seems to be B&N's self manufactured device.

More genius commentary and video after the break.

Barnes & Noble and Plastic Logic To Provide e-book Content

Many speculated that Barnes & Noble [B&N] will make that move from the dissolving paper-book provider and release content on their own e-Reader, but it seems that e-Reader developer Plastic Logic will provide the hardware and Barnes & Noble will carry provide the content of course.  Although B&N has yet to announce what the price of the content or hardware will be, we do know that this e-Reader will be exclusive to Barnes & Noble's content only, and obviously provide no content to other e-Readers [i.e. Amazon's Kindle].  Other non eBook gadgets will get some love like Blackberry phones and Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch through apps already available.

Official announcement listed after the break.

The eBooks Market Warming Up.... a bit.

Well, well, well.  It seems that the eBook scene is starting to look like a party.  With everyone from the omnipresent Rupert Murdoch to AT&T's Glenn Lurie, head of emerging devices at AT&T to Verizon to.. well you get it.... One group that has finally tossed their hat in this ring is Barnes & Noble.  The United States' largest book retailer is looking at developing their own eBook reader.  The marked interest by these book/media/communications giants could, in my humble opinion, be the dawn of the extinction of many forms of current print media.  With many newspaper ad revenues in the deep red and many magazines also on the same sinking ship, it makes sense that for long term survival, this move by all major print companies be essential.
