Legit Universal Remote On Your iPhone You Ask?

I'm sure that there are many iPhone/iPod Touch users out there who made that quick look at Apple's venerable iTunes App Store for choices on a universal remote for their device.  While there a "choices" on Cupertino's mothership, most of the apps are hindered by extra "gear" [mostly infrared receivers that remotes use to communicate with appliances] that needs to be connected the devices that you want to control.  Not very attractive.

Enters Portland, Oregon phone accessories maker New Kinetix with the Rē™ Universal Remote Control for the iPhone and iPod touch.  The difference between this remote and most of the previous offerings is the only attachment needed for the Rē™ to operate as a universal remote is a small black box that attaches to the bottom of your iPhone/iPod Touch.  You will then be able to use your iphone/iPod Touch as a universal remote with access a large database of pre loaded device codes.  The Rē™ app will also get regular updates to keep it current with new devices.

There is not much more information available for this device other than the fact that it will make it's official debut at CES in January 2010.

Now, how I just need to figure out how to get calls on the iPhone...

I will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

Bank iPhone App To Allow Check Deposits

A privately held bank & insurance company called USAA seems to be trying to stay on the cutting edge of modern technology expansion in our everyday lives, well at least when it comes to banking anyway. USAA is updating their iPhone app to also have the capability to deposit checks.  in order to deposit your checks of you are a usaa Bank customer you hsave to take a picture of the front and back of the check that you want to deposit with your iPhone.  You would then use the USAA iPhone app to forward the images of this check to the bank... and mail the original to the bank at a later date.

This idea grew out of a need to service it's customers, who are mostly members of our military stationed all over the word a little more efficiently and with only 1 USAA branch stationed on San Antonio, you can see why this app could help tremendously with customer service, at lease if you own an iPhone.

Of course the obvious security questions arises with doing wireless transactions like these.  The bank claims that the hard-copy checks that are sent in to them should be voided and the electronic check deposit option would only be available to customers with insurance protection, about 60% of their customer base.

Milo Pro Brings Projector To Your iPhone and iPod Touch

There are definitely no shortages of peripherals when it comes to Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. But I thought that this one was pretty cool. The Milo Pro is a ultra-portable projector that you can slide you iphone/iPod Touch onto and project any image/video from those devices onto any flat surface.  This mini-projector has a 640x480 resolution and is recommended to cover up to 40 inches of screen space.  As you would probably expect from a projector of this size, the brightness is a tiny 10 lumens.  But if you are always showing clips from those devices to you friends and family then this projector might be something that you could get some fun out of using...  No price or availability information currently available.

More images of the Milo pro projector after the break.

HTC's Ion Smartphone With Android 1.5 OS Gets Early Review

HTC's Ion smartphone has a lot going for it. The form factor seems to be a more refined version of their Magic phone, which is a favorite among smartphone/gadget-types. Google's Android 1.5 operating system was running on the test unit reviewed by Wired, and even though the software received a very positive review [sans pointing out slightly sluggish-launching apps], the hardware received a somewhat mixed opinion mostly due to the feel/response of the 3.2 inch touchscreen while typing [by the way, this phone has no physical qwerty keyboard as the G1 did; touch screen keys only].

"The Google phone is a little smaller than an iPhone, though a tiny bit thicker, so it feels about the same in your pocket. But within just a few minutes of navigating the menus, we were already missing both the tactile feel and the sensitivity of iPhone's glass screen. Typing out tweets on the HTC's screen made our thumbs feel like fat Italian sausages." says reviewer Jim Merithew.

Of course the review goes through comparisons with our current smartphone standard-bearer: Apple's iPhone 3G.

Apple Speculation: No New iPhone @ WWDC

I know that personally that bit of "iPhone news" is disconcerting but, if thebusinessinsider's Henry Blodget is to be believed then there will be no new iPhone present at this year's WWDC might be iphone-less with the focus of the June's event being dominated by their OS X platform Snow Leopard.

Although with that bit of speculation hinting at an actual release of a line of newly redesigned iPhones, with a plan structure that matches the different types of iPhone models, being announced at a special event shortly after Steve Jobs' return.  Steve Jobs is believed to be returning to work at Apple, possibly in a limited capacity, by the end of June.  So let's see what happens this summer. oH Yeah... Steve Job's will not be making this year's festivities either.

Apple Rumors Abound: New Verizon-Exclusive iPhone?

According to BusinessWeek, Apple might have some new wireless devices like a new mini-tablet touchscreen and a mini-iPhone on deck for Verizon's services.  Of course, the operative word here is might as I'm sure you know, there are more Apple rumors floating aound on any given day.  But these rumors seem to persist acrross different blog outlets recently.

But of course it is also speculated this this "rumor" might have been hatched out of Apple themselves to sort of add fuel to their renogotiations for Apple iPhone exclusivity through 2010.

Earth day Edition: 7 Good Green Lifestyle Gadgets

Just in time for Earth Day, Wired delivers it's top 10 Gadgets that can make your lifestyle just a little bit greener than it already is.  Two of my favorites from this group of which one is the cheapest and the other will save you on a household bill.  The price-friendly app is for the iPhone and is called called What's Fresh by Mobile simplicity.  The app actually provides a calendar that let's you know what kind of fruits and vegetables are in season in your neck of the woods and how to find them. This app currently costs only $1.  Another of my favorites Monster Cable's MDP900 Vampire-Power Killer.  It's actually a very large outlet that cuts off phantom the phantom power of anything plugged in which can account for over 10% your energy bills.  It costs $130 and both are available now.
